13th century medieval seal pendant, set on an 18ct gold and tsavorite bead necklace.

About

The seal is delicately shaped and would originally have been worn on a cord around the neck.  It is copper alloy with a 22ct gilt finish.  It depicts a bird and the words "+SIGILLUM SCERETI", Latin for 'Secret Seal'.

The shield-shaped pendant, having guarded untold secrets in the past 700 years, has been set in 18ct gold with beautifully vibrant tsavorite garnets to elegantly hold one more person's secret.

Centrepiece

Two 13th century seal pendants have been found in Britain bearing the words 'sigillum scereti'.  They may have been used in conjunction with a personal seal but the use of them was evidently not ubiquitous and remains mysterious.  Both seals are elegantly formed and would have been kept on the owners person in either an open or concealed manner.

This seal was a metal detecting find, recorded on the national database and then acquired privately.
