Item

13th century copper stud pendant of a man-at-arms, featuring the lion rampant of Scotland.  Set in a custom 'padlock' mount with black spinel and silver beads.

About

A stud pendant such as this would have been worn on a soldier's person or mounted on the frontlet band of their horse.  The copper-rich alloy has developed a beautiful dark patina with age.

A battle-worn pendant that carries the human experience of facing the day.

One available.

Centrepiece

The rampant lion has a left-facing tail and naïve form that was depicted in 13th century heraldry.  The squared "heater" shield shape, time period and find location identify this pendant with Scottish royalty, though other coat-of-arms also bore the rampant lion.

This artefact was acquired from a private antiquities collection and independently authenticated.
